So long, old friend.

Dear 2009,
I guess we both know that it's time to say our goodbyes. It's no secret; I'm pretty sure the whole world knows that you're about to leave us, with nothing but some great memories. For some you were a joy to have around, for others you were seen as a "downturn"...
I knew you would be special even when you were just a twinkle in 2008's eye.
The end of a decade, the end of the beginning of the Y2K scare (can you believe it's been 10 years?) and the beginning of a...unique songstress', we came to know as Lady Gaga, career.
I wish we had gotten to know each other better though. I feel like I was robbed of your presence; why oh why couldn't the year have 365 days?! You were great in the time we spent together though. You gave me some of the best memories I'll ever have in my life. That's why no matter what happened, I'll always only think good things when I think of you.

I will never forget you, dear friend,
Love Emily.

PS I know it'll be hard for you to hear everyone celebrating your successor in just a little while, but don't worry you'll be fading quickly before the screams, laughter and unnecessarily loud kisses fill your ears.

What a strange and wonderful journey it's been...

I say this every New Years Eve, but this year really was the best. I loved 2009.

I got to go to Cuba!
The world got to finally have it's first Black American President! :D
I got to live in Hamilton for 6 months!
Toria got to come here for two months!
I got in the Travel program!
I got the awesomest job!
I have aweeeesome marks!

The best was the 6 months in Hamilton though. I can't wait to go back!

Anyway 2009, listen to me rambling on about you...but really I can't say it enough, you were the best. I know, I know I'm making you blush but you shouldn't be so modest. Oh and if by this time next year I'm singing 2010's praises, don't hate me. You'll always have a place in my heart :)

Bound to Happen

Alright, so do you remember how last week I had a post that said "Baby, it's Cold outside...for real this time?" We were litereally the 2nd coldest place in the world on Sunday; we came in 2nd only to Siberia. Now it's just getting sad...Yet at the same time I can say that I was here and out and about in the coldest place in North America! Pwned all you people who think -5 is freezing!

Only Siberia was colder

Edmonton was the chilliest place in North America Sunday, says Environment Canada meteorologist

By CLARA HO, Edmonton Sun

Edmonton was the coldest place in North America yesterday morning and the second chilliest in the world.

The Edmonton International Airport saw a record low of -46.1 C and -58.4 C with the windchill, outfreezing even the Arctic.

"The cold high pressure has been moving down from the Arctic over the Prairies," said Environment Canada meteorologist John McIntyre... "We are right now in the centre of the heaviest, coldest air."

Only Dzalinda, Siberia, appeared to be colder, with a weather station there recording temperatures of -48 C.

But the coldest day ever recorded in Edmonton remains unbeaten at -48.3 C with a windchill of -61 C on Jan. 26, 1972...

Yesterday's frigid temperatures broke the previous record for Dec. 13, which was -36.1 C set in 2008, as well as the record for the coldest day in December, a low of -44.5 C set on Dec. 9, 1977. Cold Lake, Grande Prairie and Whitecourt also had record lows yesterday...

The temps made life difficult for Edmonton Sun photographers. One shooter said his camera froze up in mere moments outside and wouldn't work again until it was warmed up....

Hit & Run

Not meant to be an afterthought BUT Sloan was amazing. As always <3
Their new EP is called Hit & Run...which my brother told me was because Chris Murphy (the "lead" singer) was in a hit and run in Toronto sometime this year! He was on his bike and it got trashed but thankfully he was alright:)

I was rly hoping that this time I'd get to meet them...but it was -30...so even if they did come out there was no way possible to stand out and wait for them lol BUT there is always next time! (I didn't have my camera anyway :( lol)

They finished pretty early though..about 1.13 (not like Cat Empire lol at 2.30) but they were still sooooo good. Every time they walk off the stage I always wonder when I'll see them next. I was thinking about it and it's been about 1 1/2 years since I last saw them!!!! I hope it won't be so long till the next time <3

PS. I really do love how they always play "The Other Man" and "Rest of my Life" :D:D

-Oh not much
*Really?
-Yeah, it sucks. Plus it's so cold out, what is there to do anyway? I'm just gonna stay home all alone doing homework.
*Aww. Well, sucks to be you! I'm goin to Sloan b*tches!

Never Hear the End of it

Quick note: Sloan concert at the Starlite Room @ 9pm tomorrow :)
3rd time! I hope I get to meet them this time!!

Romance

Alright, so this post might sound a bit strange. I'm just warning you...No, no I'm kidding it's not that weird. For me.

When we were doing South America (in Destinations I) I heard that name Chimborazo, the name of a famous mountain in Equador. I didn't really know where I had heard it before but I knew I did...Then I looked at the map that my teacher had given us and I also saw the name Cotopaxi...and then I definitely knew that these two names had somehow gone hand in hand in a memory of mine.
But really I had no clue what they were from (besides places in Equador), so I kind of just let it pass (this was a few weeks ago)

And then I just started to remember, they were from a poem that I used to LOVE (before I knew Equador, and when I barely knew what a poem was). I remember reading it in a book that we have somewhere in the house, a red book.
And I remember how when I read it it made me feel. I remember not knowing what I felt...but I did feel something. And it just made me feel ...nice reading it. (Btw nice is such an overused but under appreciated word. Saying something nice doesn't mean it's bad or even less than something else...it's just...nice :) (Not that it's a happy-go-lucky kinda poem either, it's just...a really great poem) It was romantic (that much I could tell) but not in a man and woman romance kind of way...It was romantic in the same way that a train is...hard to explain but it has that mysterious, romantic, take-you-away kind of feeling.

(I also loved She walks in Beauty by Lord Byron. Same red book. Same feeling of not knowing what the h the authors meant but knowing that they meant something important)

And now I found that poem again!! Not in the red book, but I'm sure that's somewhere around here. It's Romance by W.J. Turner

I hope you read it and love it as much as I did/do:

When I was but thirteen or so
I went into a golden land,
Chimborazo, Cotopaxi
Took me by the hand.

My father died, my brother too,
They passed like fleeting dreams,
I stood where Popocatapetl
In the sunlight gleams.

I dimly heard the master's voice
And boys far-off at play,
Chimborazo, Cotopaxi
Had stolen me away.

I walked in a great golden dream
To and fro from school--
Shining Popocatapetl
The dusty streets did rule.

I walked home with a gold dark boy,
And never a word I'd say,
Chimborazo, Cotopaxi
Had taken my speech away:

I gazed entranced upon his face
Fairer than any flower--
O shining Popocatapetl
It was thy magic hour:

The houses, people, traffic seemed
Thin fading dreams by day,
Chimborazo, Cotopaxi
They had stolen my soul away!

Baby, it's cold outside...for real this time

So, do you remember (the time, when we fell in love??? :) a few days ago when I said it wasn't cold? Well I guess I spoke waaaaay too soon. It was -34 yesterday morning. And I'm not afraid to say it really pissed me off when people complain about -5 degree kind of weather. I wish I had -5 degree weather!!

"Stark Raving Dad"

Leon Kompowsky: You know Bart, when I was growing up I didn't have much money. So you know what I did every time my sisters' birthdays rolled around?
Bart: Stiffed them?
Leon Kompowsky: No Bart, I wrote them a song to show them I cared.
Bart: I can't write a song! I'm only ten.
Leon Kompowsky: ONLY ten?, When I was your age, I had six Gold records.
Bart: Hey, Looney Tunes!
[pulls out the Thriller album]
Bart: THIS is what Michael Jackson looks like! You just look like a big, fat mental patient!
Leon Kompowsky: You'd be amazed how often I hear that, Bart.

Oh. The old Simpsons and MJ. Could life get any sweeter?

Once upon a dream

So. This morning I wake up and I:
1. Was staying in a house with Robert Pattinson and my best friend. The house was somewhere in a forrest in the middle of nowhere; basically a HUGE cabin.
2. Was talking about how now they have "white maple syrup"...not clear but WHITE, with red ribbons through it
3. had to make a plan with Robert Pattinson and my best friend to protect Kristen Stuart, from..I don't know who

I don't remember the rest but I know it was MESSED up
LOL

In conclusion, don't eat before going to sleep.

Baby, it's cold outside

Well, not really. Cold I mean. But it has snowed about 1 foot (30 cm) since last night/early morning. I am not impressed!
Now I am asking myself the annual question: Why do people *choose* to live here, myself included?!

Rush, rush, rush!

I can't believe it's already December and Christmas is only 23 days away. WHERE DID 2009 GO?!

Fun Fact of the Day #1

Sometimes, I practice my smile on the bus...This leads to awkward rides with the strangers who see me...
